Jane

Q: Why would a Professional want to use the Inquiry Page?

A: Jane, the Visitor Experience Coordinator for Conner Prairie Living History Museum near Indianapolis, IN, uses the Inquiry Page for a number of reasons.

As a Visitor Experience Coordinator, Jane does research on how visitors interact with the museum exhibits. She tries to find out:

  • How people learn when they visit the museum.
  • How the learning environment of the visitors can be improved by role-playing, live demonstrations, and so on...

Jane uses the Inquiry Page for several reasons:

  • As a community to share ideas, practices, and experiences.
  • For inspiration-she knows she can get a Quote of the Day when she needs it the most!
  • As a source of references, bibliographies, project and research feedback, and potential examples for use.

She also uses the Inquiry Unit format:

  • To frame and focus her ideas, research, or inquiry on any subject.
  • To help herself clarify the question she is asking and to format the search for answers.
  • To provide structure for her ideas, research, or inquiry on any subject.

She stresses that you, as an Inquiry Page User, don't necessarily need to design your unit as a "lesson plan" unit. You can use the Inquiry Units in any format you feel comfortable with. For Jane, the structure of the Inquiry Unit format helps to structure and clarify her ideas. Perhaps her observations and experiences will help you on your way to becoming an active Inquiry Page member.
