Create a Member Profile
Tutorial Version
Becoming a member
of the Inquiry Page gives you access to Inquiry Units that are members-only,
and also allows you to create and edit your own Unit. In order to make knowledge
more readily available to our users, users becoming members of the IP are also
automatically made members of the DKRC, or
Distributed Knowledge Research Collaborative, a partner
project of the IP.
Although you are only required to fill in the fields marked with red asterisks, adding additional information to your profile helps the site to more effectively match site resources to your interests. Also, in the future, you can choose to make aspects of your profile public so that you will appear in the Inquiry user directory.
Please keep in mind that the information you provide is solely for the purpose of improving your access to Inquiry resources and will never be released to organizations other than the Inquiry Page and its Partner Projects.
From any page:
- Click on the yellow tab, "Join Us", located on the banner. You are
now at "Join the Inquiry Page".
- Click on the link, "Click Here to Register as an Inquiry Member.". You are now at the page containing the membership form. Follow the steps below to create a member profile.
From the membership form:
- You are now at the point where you can create a member profile. On the screen is a form with blank spaces for your name, etc.
- Fill in all of the blank spaces or—to save time—just fill in the required fields, which are marked with red asterisks. Note that the email address you use will double as your log-in name.
- Use a password that is easy for you to remember. (In the case of a forgotten password, there is a function on the Inquiry Log-in page that will remind you almost immediately.)
- For additional information, enter the url or your personal webpage if you have one, upload a picture and provide any other information about yourself
- In the next section, "Profession Information", check the boxes that best describe you.
- In the final section, "Mailing List Subscriptions", check the box next to each mailing list you would like to join. Once you submit the form you are automatically added as a subscriber to the lists you have chosen. You will receive separate confirmation notices from each mailing list at the email address you have provided.
- Note: The DIME list is slightly different from the other mailing lists. Rather than automatically adding you as a subscriber, it will send you a message asking if you really want to subscribe to the list. Once you get the message, follow the instructions provided.
- Now you can choose which information to share and whom to share it with. For example, if you leave the first checkbox blank, "General Inquiry Page users", and check the second box, "members of my partner project ", then only users who are logged in as members of that project will see your information.
- Look over the information to make sure it is correct. If not, you can scroll down and click the "Reset" button for a clean form or simply individually edit the field that needs to be corrected.
- Click the "Submit Button". A page will automatically appear telling you that you've successfully become a member.
