All too often book discussions
begin--and end--with factual recall
questions that do not generate
interest or enthusiasm for the text itself.
Informative and thought-provoking
book discussions do not require
charismatic discussion leaders or
brilliantly articulate readers, but are
rather the result of genuine
questions generated by readers--including but
not limited to the book discussion
leader. Inquiry-based book discussions
provide students with valuable
experience in investigating the multiple
meanings of texts and in
stimulating them to formulate and explore their
own questions.
facilitating an inquiry-based book
discussion as well as critieria for
selecting appropriate books for
discussion. Participants will also have
an opportunity to participate in
an inquiry-based book discussion.
